Faced with chaos, he chose creation as an act of absolute resistance, turning elegance into both a political and spiritual weapon.

He studied management at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, then trained in the rigorous discipline of fashion at the Canadian Fashion Academy in Toronto. In 1985, he founded his house in the family living room in Jal El Dib, sewing his first designs himself amid the bombings, already laying the foundations of a body of work that would become a major force in contemporary haute couture.

Twenty-five years after his arrival in Paris in 2001, Georges Chakra upholds a rare commitment: all production remains rooted in Lebanon, in Jal El Dib. Exquisite embroidery, meticulous beading, and intricate micro-pleating are executed entirely by Lebanese hands trained to his exacting standards. This “Made in Lebanon” label represents a profound commitment: preserving and elevating ancestral savoir-faire to the status of a living national heritage.

At the heart of his creative universe lies a singular obsession: the back. “The back is my canvas; it expresses women’s motion and emotion with strength and certainty,” the designer affirms.

This vision transforms each dress into a powerful three-dimensional narrative. Plunging necklines, sculptural trains, and masterful plays on transparency allow the front to present the woman to the world, while the back reveals her deepest inner self.

The Spring/Summer 2026 collection, “Structure in Motion,” presented during Haute Couture Week in Paris in January 2026, brings this philosophy to its zenith. With mikado, duchess satin, and sequins, Chakra works like a nuclear physicist: he extracts the hidden light and force buried within the material, making it radiate with power.

Photo: © w. mariot for THE EIGHTH ART – Paris, January 27, 2026

On the international red carpet, Georges Chakra long ago transcended the role of designer to become a true master. His creations have appeared in cult films like The Devil Wears Prada and iconic series such as Gossip Girl. In 2025 and 2026, his work shone at the Oscars, Cannes, and major award ceremonies. Kate Hudson notably wore a vibrant red gown from the Fall/Winter 2025-2026 collection to the 2026 Palm Springs International Film Awards, where she received the Icon Award. Jodie Turner-Smith and Anna Kendrick have also chosen archival pieces from the house, underscoring the timeless quality of his work.

In the spirit of the Eighth Art, Georges Chakra does more than dress the most prominent women of our time : he reveals and elevates them.

As the guardian of an art that invites us to move beyond merely appearing and to truly be, he offers humanity the experience of the sublime. Where ordinary fashion fades and disappears, his creations endure, inviting every woman to write her own destiny with a beauty full of grandeur.

To discover the collections, visit the official website:

https://www.georgeschakra.com

CHIKH Larbi

THE EIGHTH ART

April 15, 2026

Born in 1963 in Beirut, then known as the “Paris of the Middle East,” Georges Chakra grew up in a country plunged into civil war from 1975 onward.
